Photobucket is not the only one plumping its plumage, in hopes of finding a suitor. Technorati prompted speculation with its founder David Sifry’s self-style “State of Technorati” report, trumpeting a pageviews spike in the first quarter this year.
That Sifry labelling Technorati as “very much a media company” is a dead giveaway. He attributed the growth in traffic to the proliferation of social media and widespread use of the blog search engine’s tagged media pages. Still, some believe Technorati “doesn’t seem to have much or any mojo”.
It faces an array of new competition from blogger communities like MyBlogLog, aggregators such as Techmeme and blog search engines such as Google’s own. Perhaps an extreme makeover is needed to turn it into a sexy Web 2.0 play.
