On a serious note, we noticed this from TechCrunch: Jobster takes more money to spread social job search.
Is job search a late-comer to the social net craze? Or job hunting an inherent part of your ’social’ activities that are migrating online? Jobster is put to the test whether looking for gainful employment is scalable now that it has landed $18 million more from a team lead by international publishers Reed Elsevier. The company has also received over $30 million in total fromVCs including Ignition Partners, Mayfield Fund and Trinity Ventures.
At Jobster, job seekers can create profiles, leave comments about their workplace and subscribe to RSS feeds. The company recently acquired GoJobby - a “resume and skilelrs tracker” - and has formed partnerships with SixApart, JobCentral and the VirtualEdge Corporation. Jobster says it’s seen seen 50% quarter over quarter growth over last five quarters.
Naturally it raises the question of whether employers want to make the hiring process a social endeavor. What about the integrity or “questionable sincerity” of user generated content in the job market? Jobster will enjoy its day in the sun but VCs and entrepreneurs will be watching it closely to see whether the MySpace formula works.
Have anyone used Jobster? I’m very skeptical.
