The creators of YouTube cult hit Lonelygirl15, aka “Bree”, have announced last Friday to move the Web drama to Revver, the ad-supported video site where they stand to gain a cut of ad revenue from the clips, MediaPost reported today.
Revver, as we blogged in July, attaches advertisements to the end of online videos and shares revenue 50-50 with the content owners. It generated buzz by hosting the popular Diet Coke-Mentos fountain video, whose creators had received about $30,000 in ad sales by early July.
It’s a shrewd move on the creators side, riding the free publicity YouTube has generated for them. For Revver, it’s a much-needed PR boost in the “land grab” war among video blog sites. It will be interesting to see whether the devoted fans will follow “Bree” to her new home.
